Species shown: Ermine / Stoat (Mustela erminea)
The Stoat (Mustela erminea), also known as the Eurasian Ermine or Ermine, is native to Eurasia and the northern regions of North America. Because of its wide circumpolar distribution, it is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. In the Netherlands but not in the USA, it is listed as “vulnerableā. It’s completely white in winter, and mainly beige and gray in summer. It is primarily nocturnal, making it difficult to photograph; during the day it is mainly seen in the morning and evening. This was the first time I was able to photograph this remarkable creature.
This photo was taken in the Switzerland in January, with Canon EOS R5 with Canon 500mm with 1.4x extender at 700mm, f/5.6, 1/1250s, ISO2000
