The bluethroat is a migrating insect eating species breeding in wetlands in Europe, Asia and  Alaska. The males can easily be spotted in the mating season, which is mainly the month of April. Bluethroat courtship consists of an elaborate sequence where the male displays his bright plumage and diverse song. He stands erect, points his bill upward to highlight his iridescent throat and chestnut patch, raises his fanned tail, and circles the female while singing.
