Species shown: Northern Nutcracker

The Northern Nutcracker (or Spotted Nutcracker or Eurasian Nutcracker) is a passerine bird in the crow family. It is slightly smaller than the Eurasian jay but has a much larger bill. They eat mainly seeds of pines, and in fall and early winter they tend to collect seeds and store them for later use. When feeding, they show a clear hierarchy, which is challenged frequently, resulting in fights such as on this photo.
