The common starling, also known simply as the starling, and as the European starling in North America, is a medium-sized passerine bird. This species is omnivorous, taking a wide range of invertebrates, as well as seeds and fruit. Although they are highly social animals that fly in large flocks especially in fall and winter, they are also competitive when looking for food.
