Species shown: Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica)
This photo was taken on the island Hornoya, in the north eastern part of Norway. Atlantic puffins spend the winter on the Atlantic ocean, only for breeding do they go on land. When I saw the atlantic puffins in the snow I wondered why they choose such a northern location fort their breeding period. The answer is simple, the northern parts of the Atlantic ocean are very rich in fish, and the puffins’ diet is 100% fish.
Their IUCN red list cateorgy is ‘vulnerable’. This species has experienced a rapid decline across most of its European range. Population trends outside Europe are unknown. Atlantic puffins occur in the northern parts of the Atlantic ocean, in Europe and America.
The photo was taken with Canon R5 with Canon 100-500mm at f/7.1, 1/2000s ISO1600
