Species shown: Chamois / Alpine Chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra)
The Chamois or Alpine Chamois is a species of goat-antelope native to mountainous parts of Europe and Western Asia. It lives in precipitous, rugged, rocky terrain at moderately high elevations of up to at least 3,600 m (11,800 ft). In the Gran Paradiso national park where this photo was taken, it snowed every day, which made it difficult for the chamois to find grass. Therefore they were often seen on steep slopes where there was less snow and grass easier to find.
This photo was taken in the National Park Gran Paradiso in the Italian Alps in January, with Canon EOS R5 with Canon 100-500mm at 500mm, f/7.1, 1/500s, ISO1600
